Texas Essay Editors is a boutique writing consultancy for high school and college students in Texas and beyond. We help learners of all styles develop the research, critical thinking and writing skills needed for academic and professional success.
Writing impactful narrative essays is an art form and, like any craft, there is no one better suited to teaching young students than a professional who has mastered the skills and learned from common mistakes. Publisher and college professor Scott Gleeson believes every student can captivate admissions officers with expressive narrative essays revealing each author’s unique self. Scott has written successful personal statements for every stage of his own academic career, including vivid essays for graduate and undergraduate programs at Yale, SMU, Bates, Bowdoin and Colorado College as well as granting organizations like The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. Now he shares his essay writing and editorial experience with college-bound students throughout Texas seeking a competitive edge in the admissions process.
With acceptance rates for many top colleges and universities falling below 25%, applicants may distinguish themselves from other candidates by drafting artful personal statements and supplemental essays. College admissions professionals agree that application essays remain a vital part of the review process, outweighing grades and test scores in some instances. Applicants to selective private schools may be required to draft additional essays for each institution, producing as many as 25-30 separate documents. This can be a fraught experience for students who have mastered academic challenges at the expense of the basic skills of self expression. It is also a challenge for students from privileged backgrounds who may not have the life experience of other young people emerging from difficult circumstances with a strong sense of identity and life direction. Private college admissions essay tutoring is designed to help students highlight their strengths and avoid common mistakes. Writing tutoring augments the limited editorial support available at even the most prestigious Texas preparatory schools and compliments private test prep services and more general college admissions consulting.
Scott Gleeson consults directly with each client to develop a personalized strategy for the writing process. TxEE currently offers 3 tutoring options for college-bound students:
College Essay Coaching
Admissions Essay Draft Review™
College Essay Crash Course™
College essay consulting begins in June and continues throughout the application season. Clients achieve the best results when allowing 2-4 weeks to develop and refine ideas and work through at least 2 revisions.
During the first two sessions we will discuss strategies for writing the personal statement, brainstorm topics with narrative potential, and engage in short writing exercises designed to stimulate the inner dialogue essential to personal reflection. The bulk of the editorial process will take place behind-the-scenes, collaborating on essay drafts over Google Docs, text messaging and phone until the polished final version is completed. Once the personal statement is finished, we guide clients through the production of each supplemental essay. Application to certain schools may require additional essays or versions of the personal statement, each of which will be treated as a new document. Tutoring may also be conducted through in-home and in-person sessions for students in Dallas, Fort Worth and Austin upon request. Phone consultations and cloud-based editorial support is available to students nationwide. Call Scott at (505) 603-9404 for a free consultation or complete the form below!
Need advice on an existing draft? Submit a draft of your Personal Statement or Supplemental Essay to receive detailed online editorial feedback about its topic, tone, structure, and effectiveness. Draft review includes one round of Google Docs support plus one brief phone consultation. Students may continue support billable at the normal hourly rate.
